Planning & Zoning Commission
The Planning and Zoning Commission (PZC) plays a crucial role in shaping the future of Lancaster by guiding land use decisions and development patterns. The PZC works closely with the City Council to ensure that new development aligns with the city's comprehensive plan and zoning ordinances.
Key Responsibilities:
- Land Use Planning: The PZC reviews and makes recommendations on zoning changes, comprehensive plan amendments, and development proposals to ensure they are consistent with the city's vision.
- Development Review: The Commission reviews site plans, plats, and other development applications to determine compliance with zoning regulations and development standards.
- Public Input: The PZC encourages public participation in the land use planning process through public hearings and meetings.
Committee Composition:
The PZC typically consists of five (5) members appointed by the City Council. Members should possess a diverse range of expertise and perspectives related to land use, development, and community planning.
Recommended Qualifications:
- Knowledge of land use planning, zoning regulations, and development processes
- Understanding of community development and economic impact
- Ability to analyze complex land use issues and make informed recommendations
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Meetings and Terms:

- Terms: Board members serve two-year terms, with the alternate member serving a one-year term.
