Animal Traps
Animal Trap Availability
The Animal Control Division has a limited number of traps available to residents. If you need a trap, contact the Animal Services Division at 972-218-1200 or 972-218-1210. Your name will be placed on the first come, first served list for animal traps with a $50.00 refundable security deposit.
Animal Trap Rules
- Residents are responsible for damaged or lost traps.
- Traps may not be set on weekends.
- Our animal service division do not service trapped animals. Trappers are responsible for what they trap.
- Traps may only be set on private property.
Animal Bites
Reporting Animal Bites
All animal bites from household pet or wild animals should be reported to the Animal Control Service Division at 972-218-1210. The animal services officers will record all incidents of animal bites in the city. It is important to know which animal caused the bite because it must be quarantined for observation.
Animal Quarantine
The fee for quarantine of an animal housed at the shelter is $15 per day and $150 for rabies observation quarantined redemption. All animals housed and quarantined are required to be kept for 10 days.
Animals at Large
Owner Responsibilities
It shall be unlawful for the owner of any dog or other animal other than a cat to fail to keep such dog or animal from running at large.
Running at Large
An animal will be deemed running at large if the animal is not completely confined by a building, wall, or fence of sufficient strength or construction to restrain the animal.
Exceptions
Animals shall not be deemed running at large if:
- The animal is on a leash.
- The animal is held in the hands of the owner or keeper.
- The animal is under direct supervision of the owner within the limits of the owner's private property.
- The animal is within an automobile or other vehicle.
Impounding of Animals
- Any animal running at large is subject to being impounded by animal control officers.
- Strays and dead animals will be picked up during normal business hours.
