You must be 18 years old, have a valid Texas driver's license and fill out the adoption agreement. State law requires that all pets adopted from an animal shelter be spayed or neutered and vaccinated against Rabies. You must bring a pre-paid Rabies vaccination invoice from a local veterinarian prior to adopting a pet.
There is no guarantee that an animal will go up for adoption. Evaluation of an animal for adoption can take up to several days.
We also hold animals for a variety of other reasons. Due to the nature of some of these situations, we cannot give out information as to why an animal is not available for adoption.
Once an animal goes up for adoption we try to keep them for as long as we can. This will depend on the amount of space we have as well as the health and temperament of the animal. There is no "set" amount of time.
The Lancaster Animal Shelter reserves the right to refuse an adoption.
