There are numerous colleges and universities within 30 minutes of Lancaster. (See list below.) Cedar Valley College (CVC) located in Lancaster is a publicly supported comprehensive community college committed to helping their students develop their potential and increasing the productivity of its students in Lancaster and across CVC's entire service area. The University of North Texas Dallas Campus is designated to become a full university in the future. It is located in south Dallas County.
The Lancaster Independent School District (LISD) is the predominant school district in Lancaster. The LISD works closely with other school districts and CVC to provide top quality educational opportunities for the children of the area. Likewise, that portion of Lancaster served by the Dallas ISD enjoys a quality learning experience.
There are also numerous training programs available from the state. The Office of the Governor, Economic Development and Tourism (EDT) and Texas Workforce Commission can assist with accessing these programs.
Public Library
The new Lancaster Veterans Memorial Library is a 23,000 square foot facility, equipped with over 30 public Internet workstations, wireless access, and is defined as having one of the best genealogy collections in the region. The library provides author signings and programs, artist demonstrations, children's workshops, homework reference assistance, public Internet training, literacy programs, videos, audiobooks, databases, interlibrary loan, and cooperative resource sharing with the nearby city of Cedar Hill.
