Most likely the battery needs to be changed. It is a good idea to change the batteries every six months. If smoke detectors continue beeping after adding fresh batteries, it could be time to replace them. It is recommended that smoke alarms be replaced after 8 to 10 years.
The City of Lancaster Fire Department is providing FREE smoke detectors to Lancaster resident homeowners in need. If your detectors aren't in working order, call Fire Department Administration to request installation or battery checks. (Our donated detectors are battery operated only. If you wish to purchase the hard-wired variety (with battery back-up) LFD can come out to install those for you.) Remember, smoke detectors should typically be replaced after 8 to 10 years. Please call (972) 218-2601 or (972) 218-2602 to request new smoke detectors or if you have any questions. Supplies are limited and due to current staffing shortages, we will typically schedule residents on Saturdays.
